I didn’t know why so many bars and restaurants were at basement level in Osaka — thanks for providing the history! I’m glad you had a great izakaya dinner, I’ve been turned down at a few in my travels to Japan as a foreigner.
I have heard that from many fellow travelers as well… it somehow never happened to me. Thankfully.

No! I am traveling around Asia for the year and spent nearly 40 days in Japan.
So dystopian! I ‘think’ I’ve put this on my Osaka eat experience list for later this year… if I can find it…
